"Top Chef" contestants dish during the season reunion

"Top Chef" competitors reunited: (top l-r) Jennifer, Preeti, Ashley, Jesse, Ash, Ron, Mattin, Hector, Robin, (bottom l-r) Eve, Laurine, Michael, Eli, Kevin, Jennifer, Michael, Bryan.
With a handful of issues simmering throughout the season, like the question of whether Robin should have advanced so far in the competition, the rivalry of the Voltaggio brothers, and the controversial comments made by Mike and Eli, there was a veritable smorgasbord of topics to dish on.
In that spirit, here's a rundown of the tastiest tidbits revealed during the reunion:

"Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi and head judge Tom Colicchio enjoy a colorful comment about the season.
• Head judge Tom Colicchio revealed that Kevin, having a bad night during the finale, effectively eliminated himself from the running — and similarly, many of Bryan V's dishes lacked salt, making brother and ultimate "Top Chef" winner Michael's dishes all the better by comparison.• Kevin said that difficulties arising during a challenge that led to teammate Laurine's elimination made him want to leave the competition, explaining that he felt his integrity was compromised.
• In another Kevin moment, the affable Atlanta-based chef talked about a quickfire challenge that won him the chance to enjoy the challenge dishes along with a group of highly respected chefs, saying that he felt out of place because of the language barrier. Legendary chef and restaurateur Joel Robuchon, who was also in attendance, asked Kevin if he spoke French, and when Kevin said that he didn't, Robuchon said only one more thing to him that night: his reply, "Pity."
• "Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi stated that this season's contestants were the most talented bunch, to which Tom agreed.
• Ash confessed that he said via his blog that he didn't think Padma liked him, and Tom asked if any of the other cheftestants got the same vibe about themselves. Though most of them shared his feelings, Padma explained that during the season she lets the competitors' dishes do the talking, but is open to getting to know them on a personal level once the show has wrapped.
• As usual, silly — and yes, alcohol-fueled — antics ensued in the "Top Chef" house and the stew room where the cheftestants await judges' table. You'll have to watch the reunion yourself to find out who skinnydipped, who carried whom goofily around the house, and who excused themselves from a conversation when their booze-soaked stomach beckoned.
• On the Voltaggio brothers' seasonlong battle: Michael admitted he felt some guilt about beating his big brother for the win, citing Bryan for inspiring him to become a chef. Mama Voltaggio joined the reunion, too, to talk about the emotional rollercoaster she went through during the show, even joking that she rooted for Kevin so as not to play favorites. And for Bryan, his mom announced that while he didn't win the season, there was a grand prize of sorts waiting for him in the family garage (think vintage automotive, not old paint cans).
• The best montage of the night was a toss-up: the friendship between self-proclaimed "rednecks with a slightly higher than average IQ" Eli and Kevin, or the judges-centric blooper reel.
• Mike acknowledged that he didn't come off as the most likable cheftestant, suggesting that his New Jersey attitude gave the wrong impression. But in another montage moment, it was clear that it's Mike's world and we're just living in it.
• Jennifer went to bat for Mike after viewer-submitted questions posed how they could be friends in light of sexist comments he made about his female counterparts. As was the case during the season, such remarks didn't concern her, but rather just focusing on the food.
• Robin talked about ... talking, simply explaining that her constant chatter helped her stay on task in the kitchen. And then there's the matter of how Robin was treated throughout the season by her fellow cheftestants: Robin said she felt she was a convenient scapegoat, and Eli — who infamously commented that Robin won a quickfire challenge as a pity gesture for having survived cancer — attributed his not-so-niceness to the heat of the moment and apologized. Best of all, in a rare moment of sweetness, Michael V expressed his appreciation for Robin's maternal qualities.
And as with each season of "Top Chef," there's more at stake than just the coveted title and prize package — rather, one cheftestant is also named fan favorite. This year's fan favorite was also a longtime overall favorite: Kevin. Adding the $10,000 fan favorite prize to his winnings during the "Top Chef" season, he's $55,000 richer as a result of the show.
Local chef and eve the restaurant proprietor Eve Aronoff didn't get much airtime during the reunion show, but a fun time was had, as seen the photo below.
