Tuesday's Top of the Park: Bassam Saleh, Drivin' Sideways, "Avatar"

Here's an introduction to the acts appearing Tuesday, June 29 at Top of the Park — the Ann Arbor Summer Festival's free, outdoor component, held outside the Rackham Building, on East Washington Street at Ingalls Mall. And don't forget the Top of the Park Photo Contest, presented by AnnArbor.com for the festival.

The KidZone Tent is open from 6:30-8 p.m., and during those same hours the festival will hold one of its global parties, a Mahrajan Middle Eastern Celebration.

Bassam Saleh Rackham Stage, 6:30 p.m.

Get on your feet as vocalist Bassam Saleh and his high-energy band bring back centuries-old traditions of Arabian night’s full of music, song and dance. This band promises to rock the mall with the hottest dabke in town.

Drivin' Sideways Rackham Stage, 8 p.m.

Drivin' Sideways is “real country music” and plays a mixture of classic country, blues, rock covers and original material.

Movie: "Avatar" (2009, PG-13, 162 minutes) Ingalls Mall, 10 p.m.

Director James Cameron created what is, by some measures, the most commercially successful movie of all time — a futuristic tale of a paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora at the last moment after his brother is unable to complete the mission. Fulfilling orders to gain the trust of Pandora’s native inhabitants, the marine finds himself torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is now his home.
