What did you think of the Oscars broadcast?

The Academy Awards on Sunday went down almost entirely as expected, so pretty much the only thing left to talk about today was how the broadcast itself was—(though that was also largely predictable, with Billy Crystal returning as host.)

Billy Crystal should NEVER, NEVER host the Oscars again! His Sammy Davis blackface skit was offensive and his "jokes" about Black women were offensive as well!

A lot like eating a big bag of candy--fun while you're doing it followed by guilt at having spent that much time so engaged. I watch for the fashions, thus the candy analogy. Usually I'm in jeans. I'd actually SEEN two of the nominees this year which is a first for me.

I don't think the Oscars will ever be very interesting while the movies and nominations remain so predictable. Too many other award shows, who first select the "winners" prior to the Oscars, for there to be surprises, a broader range of winners or stopping the "good old boys" elbowing their way to the golden statue. One look at the winners this year and the Las Vegas bookies wouldn't have given you any odds, too predicatable. Even the presentation itself is creaky and predictable, full of just plain indulgence and fodder, so as to maintain the predictable 3 1/2 hours (or more) it takes to get through the show.

Being a former TV performer in Detroit, I appreciated the Oscars much more that the average viewer. And I agree that even the commercials were more palatable this year, and what a blessing that was, after all the loud, obnoxious commercials we are usually subjected to on TV. It was nice to have Billy Crystal back. The girl singing "What a Wonderful World" was so amazing...what a voice! Even the acceptance speeches were good, for the most part. Enjoyed the show very much.

The commercials were actually entertaining for once, more so than the Super Bowls!

We enjoyed it very much this year. It was great to see Billy Crystal as host again. Cirque du Soleil was amazing. This year we were able to rent for a few bucks (sometimes for free) many of the contenders. That made it more interesting. No one was stupidly outlandish, other than The Dictator before the show.

Oscar, The Grammys, etc. are no different than a 1950s quiz show, payola, pay to play, or any other "contest" where you know the outcome is pre-determined by the "judges'" agendas and greed.

I think "godawful" is the best word to describe it. The only excitement of the evening came from Cirque du Soleil.
