The locally-shot movie that marks Drew Barrymore's debut as a director, "Whip It," has released its trailer and announced a release date: Oct. 9.

The Fox Searchlight movie features Ellen Page, star of "Juno," as a young woman who rebels against the beauty pageant circuit and finds a home in the world of roller derby.

Here's the trailer, and I have to say, parochial interests aside, it looks pretty good:

The production did considerable shooting in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, and cast members — also including Barrymore, Juliet Lewis and Jimmy Fallon — were regularly seen around town during production.
