Ypsilanti businesses liven up sidewalks with painted chairs

By Angela Cesere

Ypsilanti had its second annual painted chair contest and will be displaying the chairs all day today.

Individuals and businesses were invited to take an old chair and paint or decorate it to delight and amuse passers-by on Ypsilanti sidewalks.

Competition categories included most artistic chair, best branded chair promoting a local business, and best traditional painted chair.

Chairs are at the following locations:
Massage Mechanics
Aubree's Pizzeria and Grill
Sidetrack Bar and Grill
Enchanted Florist
Liquid Swordz
Mix (Heikk's Decorated Apparel Studio's chair can also be found here)
Michigan Music Hall of Fame
Travel Leaders

For more information on the event, see the Downtown Association of Ypsilanti website.

First the piano that any passerby could play. And now the chairs. Add to that all the events at Riverside Park and all the cool shops on and around Michigan Avenue and I just can't get enough of Ypsilanti. What a fabulous community. I have a spring in my step every time I visit.
