Bill Mollison, Creator of Permaculture

No respectable permaculture blog would be worth its nitrogen if it didn't introduce you to Bill Mollison from the beginning. A native of Tasmania, Bill is the unquestionable Grandfather and eco-mischief loving creator of Permaculture. To truly know Permaculture, we have to recognize and embrace the dallop of mirth with which Bill topped his earth healing design methodology. He is the essence of Grandpa. Coming to town for a warm and welcome visit while carefully, whimsically, compassionately letting us know that we've been doing it all wrong. He clasps the top of our hands and guides us to the notion that it doesn't need to be this hard. We don't need to fight nature and foolishly try to control creation like we have been for so long. We can learn from his experience, and work less, while having more.

I could write on and on about this once in a millennium man. I plan on getting back to Australia next winter to be wherever he is, and have him autograph my Permaculture Design diploma. Our time with him on this earthly plane is perhaps escaping. He turns a fruitful 83 this year. Rather than attempt to do his legacy literary justice, I'll let the man speak for himself and his creation. The following videos are Bill's PBS series "The Global Gardener" from 1991. Required viewing for Permies old and new. May you live to be 200 Bill.

Fantastic. Let's remember Bill's Permaculture ethic: 1. Care of planet 2. Care of people 3. Fair share of all surplus
