3 Ypsilanti residents charged with resisting police after boat chase on Chain of Lakes

By Paula Gardner

A marine patrol arrested three Ypsilanti residents after a boat chase last weekend on the Chain of Lakes following fireworks on Portage Lake, according to a report on LivingstonDaily.com.

The trio were taken into custody after Hamburg Township police, patrolling in a no-wake zone, said they spotted a fast-moving boat. According to the report, officers followed it to Gallagher Lake, where they tried to stop it as the driver accelerated.

The boat attempted to elude police, according to the report, and the four occupants ran after the driver beached the watercraft. Three were caught and charged, while the fourth has been identified and still faces charges.

They say that the Police never catch the smart criminals, only the stupid ones! It isn't like the movies where there is a Mastermind that plans out the perfect crime.

Craig, Super smart guy and big EMU supporter. Hey, if this is the worst family crisis he faces, he is very lucky. We all have them.

I always wonder why people think they can elude police. It seems to me that since police have radios and know how to use them, eluding them must be nearly impossible. With that said, one has to wonder why anyone would run away from a wake rap. Surely the penalty for driving one's boat too fast is similar to the penalty for driving one's car too fast. The mind boggles.

Is it possible that there were other things in the boat that they did not want the police to find? That would certainly seem to be reason to flee. Inquiring minds want to know.

"The trio were taken into custody after Hamburg Township police" Any word on whether they've caught the Hamburglar, and where they dumped the burgers? That crowd, in their 20's and 30's, were all old enough to know better. This is very serious - they could have easily killed someone. One assumes the driver has elluded before. Throw the book.

Pure genius on the part of the passengers. They were clean until they ran away from the police. Only the operator of the boat was breaking the law up until then. And doesn't Ypsilanti have their own lake that their troublemakers can use? Good Night and Good Grief

@Chewis's ghost Why? Do you think that there is a speeding boat problem in Ypsilanti?

Perhaps they had been advised not to behave in a bad way in Ypsilanti. Wouldn't look good for someone.

I had to Google it..."He was a Michigan state representative for the east side of Washtenaw County from 1989 to 1998. " Since the alleged perp in the boating incident is only 32, I assume he is the senior Mr. Profit's son. I've only lived here since 1998, so I don't have a store of local knowledge like some of the other folks.
