Ann Arbor police arrest man accused of robbing driver in parked car

By Heather Lockwood

Ann Arbor police arrested a man accused of robbing a man sitting in his car in a parking lot in the 400 block of West Washington Street on Thursday afternoon.

Ann Arbor Police Lt. Mark St. Amour said the robber came up with a knife and demanded money from the Scio Township resident at about 4:10 p.m. It's unclear whether the victim's vehicle was unlocked or whether the windows were down.

No one was injured, and the robber got away with some of the victim's possessions, St. Amour said.

St. Amour said the victim gave police a description of the robber, and the suspect was arrested in the area a short time later.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned today.

No further details were immediately available.

That's unfortunate...plus, isn't that pretty close to the Y, where lots of young kids are at that time of the afternoon? Good advice, RJA, I know I've waited with windows down many times while waiting to pick up kids.

Great Police work!! Best never to sit in your car with windows down and doors un-locked. If I'm left in the passenger seat, and the driver runs into a store or even a gas station, lock your doors, keep windows up. (simply un-lock when the driver returns and has his hand on the door handle) If I am alone, when I return to my car, I lock the doors before I put my seat belt on, or put my keys in the ignition. (plus, I have pepper spray on my key ring).
