Burglary reported in Ann Arbor

By Lee Higgins

Ann Arbor police are investigating a burglary reported Monday at a home in the 400 block of Blakely Court.

A 21-year-old woman reported that money and jewelry were taken from the home between 11 a.m. Feb. 25 and 8:30 p.m. Monday, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

She discovered the burglary when she returned home from vacation.

Police said it's unclear how someone got inside. Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Not a lot of info here. We don't know if she lives in a house, condo or apartment, but in any case, it's important to secure your premises if you go on vacation. In our house, we always make sure that timers are set for lights and a TV goes on and off, in addition to having neighbors pick up flyers that are left in doors, and keeping grass cut or snow removed. Adding an alarm is useful also, as we have done in our house. Telling your neighbors that you are leaving is a good idea so they can help watch for unusual activity. Seems like more and more break-ins in AA, adding to the increasing number over the last few months.

Blakely Court is off Division, just north of Hill St. It is an area of old houses that are rented out. Not sure if they are broken up into individual rental units, but probably.

I guess some residents are still acting like they live in a city safe from robberies, etc. Not that this woman was, of course.

Dear God, I was totally wrong on this – without going into long detail, these were earlier voice messages which somehow showed up when my turned-off cell was turned on again. The only date mentioned was "today." Still trying to get my foot out of my mouth. 1,000 pardons – I will go sit on a stool in a corner now.

Around mid day today I received two separate phone alerts from police about an armed robbery at a credit union on Packard - robber at large and considered dangerous. Is this not even on A2.com's radar?
