Copper pipes stolen from Lurie Terrace Senior Apartments in Ann Arbor
Copper pipes were stolen Monday morning from four hot water heaters in the laundry room area of Lurie Terrace Senior Apartments on West Huron Street, Ann Arbor police said.
The theft occurred between 8:13 a.m. and 8:16 a.m. and one of the building's surveillance cameras captured an image of the suspect, police said.
The pipes were stolen after a man walked into the building and spoke with an employee, claiming he left his keys there Friday and needed to pick them up from a resident, police said. It will cost an estimated $200 to replace the pipes.
The man who stole the pipes is described as white, 25 years of age, thin and clean-shaven. He had short, straight brown hair, a mole on his left cheek and tattoo on the left side of his neck. The man was wearing jeans and a beige striped jacket.
Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

This old type of crime (metal stealing) needs some new laws and controls. I would think micro etching ot micro tagging as is done with gun powder and TNT. If this metal is found at a salvage yard they are charged with receiving stolen property. Supply and demand at work. I doubt these pipes were used to install some new hotwater tanks.

Sounds like a good locale for a couple of surveillance cameras.
