Man accused of sexually assaulting child held without bond
A man is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child at a home on Nash Avenue in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County court records show.
Spencer Alexander-McCoy Allen, 32, of Jackson, is charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child under age 13.
He is being held without bond at the Washtenaw County Jail after being arraigned Wednesday morning in front of Magistrate Camille Horne. Court records show Allen is accused of sexually assaulting the child between June 15 and July 15. Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson did not respond to a request Wednesday seeking information on the case.
According to records, Allen works for a home-remodeling company, making $600 each week. Horne agreed to appoint a public defender to represent him.
Allen is scheduled to return to court Dec. 14 for a preliminary hearing.

Improvement is needed on both sides (the readers and the writers). Readers need to become more familiar with the implications of announced legal actions such as this. There's significance in the fact (in this report) that the accused is held without bond - but what is the significance? In order to better understand and pick up on these nuances, the journalist (writer) may help by providing a few key sentences which begin with, "In cases like this...." It's just information, folks, and good communications. Improvement is always possible - and benefits all parties concerned. Informing the public is the mission - go for it, AnnArbor.com. When there's a gap in people's understanding, fill it. Otherwise, you end up with a mega-mess like the comments section for the article about alleged pedophile activity. Shutting down the forum isn't the answer: cannot be the only answer. A failure to understand also means a failure to properly inform.

I know It will be difficult, but I hope we can all withhold our judgements until more information is obtained. I also hope no one will make jokes or snide remarks about this story. I'm not sure why his weekly wage is relevant though.

His wage is relevant in determining if he is eligible for a court appointed attorney

@justcurious- It will be especially difficult with annarbor.com printing his name. I'm surprised they didn't include a photo.
