Witnesses thwart theft in Ypsilanti

By Lee Higgins

Two witnesses confronted a man Thursday as he was stealing two boxes off a front porch in Ypsilanti, prompting him to drop the boxes and leave the area, police said.

About 3:45 p.m., the man grabbed the boxes off the porch in the 400 block of Madison Street, shortly after they were delivered by FedEx, a police crime summary said. Upon being confronted, he dropped the boxes and left on foot, police said.

Officers later caught up with the 32-year-old man suspected in the theft, arrested him and released him. Charges are pending.

Please help each other here in Ypsi by keeping on eye open for things like this. Thanks to the people who said something and well done. Also remember that if you don't feel comfortable confronting soembody directly you can always at the very least call the police, that is what they are around for. Get to know your neighbors so you can tell who should and should not be hanging around and keep your eyes open. GO WINGS!
