Man arrested in attempted robbery outside TCF Bank in Pittsfield Township

By Lee Higgins

Pittsfield Township police Tuesday arrested a man investigators believe is responsible for attempting to steal a bag from a man outside the TCF Bank branch on Carpenter Road last week.

Police said a man entered the bank about 11 a.m. Dec. 7, and sat down. After being told an employee would be with him in a moment, he waited a minute, police said, then got up and left.

After exiting the bank, police said he attempted to steal a bag from a man who was about to enter the bank. Police said a brief scuffle ensued and the man who attempted to take the bag ran to a car. Investigators reviewed surveillance video that showed the suspect inside the bank and the car he drove there.

About 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers saw a car traveling south on Carpenter Road from Washtenaw Avenue that matched the description of the suspect's car, a police news release said. According to the release, officers stopped the car and talked to the driver, who appeared to be the same person on the surveillance video. Police said he was wearing the same coat worn by the suspect during the attempted robbery.

The 24-year-old man, who lives in the township, was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. Charges are pending.

In the future, please include the suspect's name so I can check what he's on parole for.

Wonder if he was thinking of robbing the bank and got cold feet, then thought he could get away with robbing someone weaker than him? Since I don't live too far from this area glad he was caught. Good work Pittsfield PD.
