Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police responded at 1:41 a.m. Saturday for a report of a felonious assault in the 1300 block of Washtenaw Avenue. Court records show Devon Haywood is facing a felony and two misdemeanor charges for the incident.

Bush said Haywood was angry with the driver for towing his vehicle. While the driver was seated in the tow truck, Haywood picked up a large piece of concrete and threw it at the driver, Bush said. A large dent and scratches to the vehicle were reported.

As the driver pulled away, Haywood picked up another rock and threw it, hitting his vehicle and breaking the rear window, Bush said.

Haywood was arrested when he went to pick up his car from the tow yard, Bush said. The tow truck driver was not injured in the incident.

Court records show Haywood faces a felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor charges of refusing fingerprinting and malicious destruction of property worth less than $200.

Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said Haywood bonded out of the Washtenaw County Jail on Saturday. He was turned over to the Canton Township police.

Haywood will return to court for a preliminary exam at 8:30 a.m. July 2, Fox said.

these tow truck drivers make 40 percent of what ever they bring in.. These tows are really expensive // its a major industry in ann arbor i was working at an apartment complex with no place to park my truck , I looked up to see a driver setting my truck up to get towed. I literally had to drive my truck out from under the tow truck strap to keep these knuckle heads from strealing my ride...

That may be the case now but in my time I went out by radio/cell dispatch only. I received an HOURLY wage too. I agree with Haller ? that letting towers freelance is asking for trouble.

I did that job for a while and I can attest that people do not like being towed. The way AA city government makes a racket out of towing, parking enforcement, and the rest doesn't help much either. When you hook somebody up and they're madder than hell the mayor ain't around to throw bricks at and the cops can and will shoot back so it's the tow truck guys that get to eat the bricks. Mr. Alleged Perp bought himself some street cred with his fellow lumpen proles will all his acting out, but which to me seems like a poor trade for a felony conviction and some jail time.

The facts are a little jumbled here. The window that was broken was actually in a vehicle that belonged to a legally-parked third party, a victim of terrible aim. The suspect was upset that his car had been towed previously, the tow operator was actually in the middle of hooking up another illegally parked car in the same lot. People, it's not like "Operation Repo"; people who commit violent acts toward a tow operator doing his or her job get arrested and usually get convicted here...

"Haywood picked up another rock and threw it, hitting his vehicle and breaking the rear window, Bush said." Good thing there weren't any molotov cocktails within easy reach. Speaking of which, how's that case going?

Still progressing. The two men return to court on July 17 for pretrial hearings. This is our last update: http://annarbor.com/news/crime/u-m-wrestlers-accused-of-making-molotov-cocktails-move-toward-trial/

Wait, who's the criminal in this story again? I despise the tow companies in A2, if your car breaks down its $300 please.

I'm pretty sure that throwing chunks of concrete at the driver and the vehicle makes him a criminal, irrespective of the towing charges.

I've put in a call for clarification, Craig, but AAPD has been a little hard to get on the phone today.
