Man injured after woman shoves him to the ground in Ann Arbor

By Lee Higgins

A man was injured Sunday after he struck his head on a sidewalk when a woman he knows shoved him to the ground during an argument in downtown Ann Arbor, police said.

The 26-year-old man was injured about 8:50 a.m. near East Ann Street and North 5th Avenue after he got into a shoving match with a 24-year-old woman he knows from the Delonis Center homeless shelter, police said.

After he fell to the ground, the woman punched him in the head, police said. The man had a cut on the left side of his head, which he suffered when it struck the sidewalk. He was taken by ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital. So far, no charges have been filed as the incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

This kind of thing wouldn't happen if A2 didn't have a five star homeless shelter. I know they mean well and all, but this is an expensive place for the tax payers. The Delonis Center, is a shelter for the homeless. They boast three round meals a day, 12 step groups, psyc and medical doctors, and a warm place to spend the night hours when they are full. It's a great place and ran by caring people. The only problem is that it's too good, and attracts homeless people from all over, and not just Michigan. It does however work for homeless people who come here to be treated at the UofM, and that attracts people from all sicknesses, ie. mental to medical problems.

Heaven forbid we provide a shelter for people to sleep in instead of on the ground outside. That is exactly the kind of thing I *WANT* my tax dollars spent on. Do you really think we would be better off if the homeless were not taken care of at all? The claim that the Delonis Center is a "5 star" (there is no such rating system) shelter that attracts homeless from all over the state and country is a blatant lie.

this speaks to why we need a high speed train system. So homeless people who are afraid to fly can still get to our 5 star homeless shelter in a timely manner.

@laura, perhaps Joe's unclear antecedent refers to his own comment; as in, if we didn't have a nice shelter, irrelevant comments complaining about the shelter being so nice wouldn't be made on an article about a fight or assault that happened there. Where are all the homeless people from around the globe getting all the resources to come to Delonis? And if they're really here for treatment at U-M, they must be doing so through social services programs (unlike a majority of the homeless population)...

"this kind of thing wouldn't happen if A2 didn't have a five star homeless shelter." meaning no one would hit some one else if there was no shelter? if we only had a crummy shelter people wouldn't get in fights? or if there was no shelter no one would bother to report stuff like this?

Wow there certainly is not to many facts in this story. Seems like the true victim in this story is the women from the Delonis Center, I mean she was not even arrested, why? The Delonis Center is the shelter in Ann Arbor where the staff and volunteers help homeless people one client at a time and do an amazing job. There are several services available to help people find jobs and get back into housing. I am sure that the woman in question was provoked in some way as this did not just come out of left field and has no legal consequenses. Why is a man hasseling a homeless person anyway???? I certainly hope she is OK.

"Wow there certainly is not to many facts in this story" ...but no shortage of unfounded assumptions, I guess: "I am sure that the woman in question was provoked in some way" "Why is a man hasseling a homeless person anyway?" Was the man ALSO homeless? Using your logic, why WASN'T the man arrested? I hope you were just being sarcastic. I fear you were not.

The "Selonis" is a warming center for folks who have nowhere to go. Life is hard enough, don't need anymore drama. Hope he's okay.

Man beats women with belt, man beats man with bat, women shoves man to ground. Everything's normal in Ann Arbor.

They should really arm the homeless people to protect them from themselves.
