Man pleads guilty to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from Lexus of Ann Arbor
A former general manager of Lexus of Ann Arbor has pleaded guilty to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the dealership.
David Alan Proffitt, 39, of Howell, pleaded guilty Thursday in Washtenaw County Circuit Court to embezzling $50,000 or more but less than $100,000 and obtaining money by false pretenses in an amount more than $199, but less than $1,000, court records show.
Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said Proffitt wrote more than 100 checks out to people, claiming they were customers at the Scio Township dealership who needed money refunded. Investigators said he forged signatures on the checks and cashed them, depositing the money into personal bank accounts. Deputies said the money was stolen between April 2008 and February of this year.
Proffitt is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 19.

Can't help it. He missed his calling. Should have been a banker and made some real money. Certainly a lack of checks & balances at the dealership. Plus, who was his friend at the bank? Seems the activity should have been considered questionable? OH, ya, I forgot they hire part-timers to save money on bank operations.
