A man who admitted in court last month that he sexually assaulted a young boy in Pittsfield Township was arraigned this afternoon at the Washtenaw County Jail on child pornography charges.

Michael Lloyd Sylvester, 23, of Pittsfield Township, is charged with using a computer to commit a crime and three counts of possessing child sexually abusive material.

On Feb. 17, Sylvester pleaded guilty in Washtenaw County Court to second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child under age 13, court records show. Pittsfield Township police say Sylvester sexually assaulted the boy in August 2010 at a township home, according to court documents.

Investigators seized Sylvester's computer during the investigation and requested assistance from Washtenaw County sheriff's investigators to conduct a forensic examination of it, sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Dave Archer said. Sheriff's detectives found at least three images of child pornography on the computer, Archer said.

During Sylvester's arraignment this afternoon, Magistrate Thomas Truesdell said he would appoint a public defender to represent Sylvester. Truesdell set bond at $5,000 cash or surety.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 27, and Sylvester is scheduled to be sentenced in the sexual assault case three days later.
