Sheriff's deputies investigating Friday morning carjacking

By Kyle Feldscher

This story has been updated to give the correct meeting place and location the woman was thrown from the vehicle.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a carjacking that occurred at about 5:20 a.m. Friday in Ypsilanti Township when a woman was forced out of her moving vehicle by a man who was an acquaintance.

The woman encountered the man at a gas station on Ford Boulevard, and she agreed to give the man a ride to an undisclosed location - and to let him drive.

A short time later, the woman told police, she was told to get out of the moving vehicle.

When the victim did not comply, the man opened the door and pushed her out of the moving vehicle at the intersection of Ford Boulevard and Clark Road.

Sheriff's office spokesman Derrick Jackson said the vehicle is a green 1997 Chevrolet Venture. No further information was available on the suspect.

The vehicle was recovered Friday afternoon, but the suspect was still at large, according to Jackson.

Carjacking my Aunt Fanny. MAYBE a stolen car (but I doubt it), but most certainly not a carjacking. She knows the guy, willingly picked him up and let him drive. That's not a carjacking.

Speaking as someone who's heard a variation on that story about a hundred times, believe me when I tell you that there's a 97% probability that the car isn't even stolen, let alone carjacked.

The carjacking happened at the point when he forced her out of her car, not when she picked him up.

"...a gas station near Clark Road and Ford Boulevard..." ah, no. there is no gas station at that corner. there is a golf course, high-rise apartments and a subdivision. fail again. if you mean the intersection south of there (which there are gas stations) you should cite that interection. i won't do it here as not to contaminate the story with false information. so i do not get 'gigged'.

You're correct, dading, there is no gas station there. As I examined the information I received from police, I realized I had stated the information incorrectly. The woman picked up the man at a gas station on Ford Boulevard and then was tossed from the vehicle at Ford and Clark. I have updated the story and noted at the top of the story what has been corrected.
