Thief swipes high-octane fuel from business

By Cindy Heflin

Had the thief run out of gas, or was he or she just looking for anything of value?

Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a burglary and gasoline theft at a Salem Township business.

The break-in was reported Monday at White Trucking, 7868 Chubb Road. Investigators believe the incident occurred sometime during the previous 48-hour period. The thief or thieves entered through a ground-floor window, deputies said. Several items were stolen, including a 5-gallon can of 93-octane fuel. No arrests have been made.

This reminds me of the era when petroleum was relatively safe in this county - when Dan Minzey was sheriff. His face was affixed to gasoline pumps - with a stern warning to would-be thieves.
