Two arrested in robbery of Schlanderer & Sons jewelry store Thursday
Two people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of Schlanderer & Sons jewelry store in downtown Ann Arbor Thursday afternoon, according to police.
Lt. Angella Abrams confirmed reports that watches had been stolen from the store 208 S. Main St shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.
Further information about the robbery, including the value of the watches and any details of the arrests of the suspects, was not immediately available.
Store owner Chuck Schlanderer declined comment about the robbery today.

These comments about a police report at ttimes leave me confused. Have any of you who are so critical of the reporting every consistently read the reports? Facts / evidence are publicaly given out only to the extent it protects all of the evidence. No prosecutor wants the all the facts to be public because what is not made public allows for better questions of the suspects. Lt. is obviously an officer of the police force. Formal charges have not yet been filed; so we know there was a robbery -period.

Nice to know a Rolex is still worth something even in this economy.

"Abrams confirmed reports..." Who is Abrams? He is your source for the report that watches were stolen, but he isn't identified. Who is your source for the first paragraph? We can infer that he is a police spokesman, and probably also the source for the first paragraph, but we shouldn't have to infer anything.

Lt. Abrams is a former public information officer who still speaks to the media when primary spokesperson Lt. Renee Bush is not available. Both Bush and Abrams confirmed to me this morning that two were in custody, that is where information in the first paragraph came from.

Kyle - That's better, but she still isn't identified, only given a rank and first name, nor do you give a source for the first paragraph. Again, we can infer that she is a spokesperson for AAPD and your source for the first paragraph, but we shouldn't have to do that.

Not only is this the second time in months that store has been robbed, it's the second time where "information not available" has been the "content" of news on these events. Really - there was strange information about whether or not the robbers last summer were armed and it seemed a virtual news blackout shut off information about the CAPTURED offenders. I don't recall but it seems there was no news of a trial or any such to-be-expected procedure. What does "Two people have been arrested in connection with..." really mean? Are they the suspects in this robbery or not? Sure, it seems obvious, but if it's obvious: why not say they're the suspects. Was it coincidence that police were seen examining a white sedan which had been left facing the wrong way in the west bound lane of William Street just feet from the parking structure exit about 4:30 PM yesterday? Since at least three officers were seen responding to that odd situation, isn't it reasonable to ask if it's connected to the robbery which occurred just down the street minutes earlier?

Or AAPD has so little faith with AA.com due to past experiences that they refuse to work with them anymore...

"Tru2Blu76, why don't you call the police department and ask?" He probably realizes that the police have better things yo do than answer questions from curiosity seekers.

IMO, if the police and/or victims wanted people to know exactly what went down, that info would be available...as it is, this is an ongoing investigation and I for one, do not want anything broadcast that could injure the investigation and cause any prejudice for future proceedings. Suffice to say, thanks to the AAPD for an excellent job well done! re: last years armed robbery at the same location...I believe the 4 arrested were released for lack of evidence...

Trust me, I completely understand. I'm as hungry for information as you are. I always try to be as transparent as possible with my reporting practices and I just wanted to communicate that I am working on this story throughout the day today.

Thank you, Kyle, for clarifying the situation to the extent possible at this time. It's of interest to me because I live in that area and when I see something out of the ordinary (like that abandoned car on William), I want to know more about it. I also understand: police are not able to provide details until investigators have come to some conclusions. I hope you'll be successful in getting more info as it becomes available.

The short answer to your questions, TruBlu, is "probably not." Unfortunately, I have not been able to get those details confirmed by police and all I have for details at this point were gained from listening to the police scanner yesterday afternoon. It is our policy that we don't publish information directly off of the police scanner because the information we hear can often be inaccurate or incomplete. I am working to get those details confirmed. I have asked police about it and have been told by Lt. Abrams that she could not say that was true. When I have those details, I will post them.

Great news to hear this morning. These two won't be selling the items or giving them to someone for Christmas.
