2 people robbed at gunpoint near Briarwood Mall

By Lee Higgins

Two people were robbed at gunpoint near Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor on Thursday night as they were making a night deposit, a University of Michigan police crime alert said.

According to the alert, the victims were robbed in the 300 block of Briarwood Circle at 11 p.m. after two men approached, one of whom pulled a handgun and demanded money.

The men stole the victims' credit cards and left in a vehicle, the alert said. Ann Arbor police are investigating.

One of the men was described as black, with a light complexion, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and in his 20s. He had short hair and was wearing a tan coat and black jeans. The other man was described as black, 6 feet tall, with a thin build and short hair. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans, the alert said. Both men had their faces partially covered.

Ann Arbor police could not be reached for comment this morning.

It's not the first robbery in that area this month. On Dec. 5, police said a man robbed the TCF Bank at 125 Briarwood Circle, got on an AATA bus and was arrested in Ypsilanti.

Anyone with information on Thursday's incident can call the Ann Arbor Police Department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Yet another armed robbery in A2. Oh, that's right. Crime is down. Thugs have figured out that A2 is an easy hit and even if you're caught, it's only a slap on the wrist!

I'm glad the victims came through their experience unharmed. I worry that that one of these incidents wherein the victims have no defense will result in a murder - just because the criminal can. Why carry a gun? Because a whole cop would be too heavy.

Why, why ?? So many don't know the reason for the season. ( any time of the year I guess) Crime continues to climb all over the world.

How come security was not on top of it? Your own safety is your personal responsibility, this is from the US Supreme Court. But Simon Properties keeps honest people from protecting themselves. Thanks a lot.

The thugs have discovered that you can pretty much get away with anything. But boy does that slab of metal looksweet outside city hall.

Is the crime rate up in Ann Arbor, or is it just me? Between the sudden deaths and bank robbers, is there any good news lately?

So we get crime alerts from the U of M police and the A2 Police, who actually COVER Briarwood, can't be reached for comment? Call the Mayor, QUICKLY. We need to commission a consultant study on what we need to do. And then bury it and ignore it.

Did the thieves get the deposit money? Or just the victim's credit cards? Which bank was it at? The alert does not seem very detailed.
