Woman accused of embezzling $20,000 from Ypsilanti Township company

By Lee Higgins

A woman is accused of embezzling $20,000 from a waste management company in Ypsilanti Township while she was employed there, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

Sarah Marie Davis, 38, of Livonia is charged with embezzling $20,000 or more, but less than $50,000 from Geodynamic Industries, Inc.

She has not yet been arraigned in court and could not be reached for comment today.

Sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Thomas Pennington said Davis had a position at the company that gave her access to payroll. Pennington said Davis stole the money by paying herself for overtime hours she never worked. When a general manager confronted her about it, Pennington said she admitted to it.

Court records allege the money was taken between May 15, 2010, and June 28 of this year from the company on Blackmore Avenue.

If convicted, Davis faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Now AIN"T this just a bunch of trash/garbage! I think if I owned a business, I would hire a healthy retired person between the ages of 65 and 75.

Wow! $20,000 in overtime in just over a years time. I know that's not too ridiculously obvious, but still with companies watching their bottom line in this economy did she really think they wouldn't notice or question it? I thought folks only did this in the public sector using taxpayer funds where they most likely will get away with it.
