Woman reports purse snatching in Pittsfield Township Sam's Club parking lot

By Julie Baker

Police in Pittsfield Township are investigating a purse snatching in a Sam's Club parking lot that occurred around 2:20 p.m. today, according to a news release.

A woman was walking to her car in the parking lot at 5450 Carpenter Road when a white male suspect wearing a brown hoodie exited the rear driver-side door of a beige-colored, four-door sedan.

The vehicle was driven by another suspect, who drove the car slowly past the woman. The suspect in the hoddie then reportedly grabbed the woman's purse and jumped back into the car. The vehicle then left the parking lot and was last seen exiting onto Michigan Avenue, the release said.

I'm not surprised. I've seen drug deals go down in the McDonalds parking lot near that store and there have been several hold ups at the gas station across the street.

This is a bad area simply because this area is right next to the highway. Snatch, grab and hit the road. Glad to hear the woman was ok and now I will be more vigilant to get my purse in my vehicle first thing. Wow.

I don't go near that area for anything, so I didn't know it was next to the expressway. Makes me wonder if more purse snatchings take place at the Sam's and Walmart stores on Ford Road, just west of I-275; the Ellsworth Road Walmart isn't that close to I-94.

@Lac Court, please share with us where you get your information regarding Walmart/Sam's related crimes. You just come off sounding like a Walmart hater.

Walmart owned businesses do seem to have more of a problem with this kind of crime as compared to other businesses. Shop at Sam's or Walmart and take your chances. It's your decision.

The crime map shows that most of this sort of crime happens at Briarwood mall. So much for your theory.
