Ypsilanti man charged with sexually assaulting 11-year-old girl
A 30-year-old Ypsilanti man accused of sexually assaulting a child was arraigned Monday.
Darius Morris was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving an 11-year-old girl, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 18.

Darius Morris
The alleged offense occurred in Ypsilanti last June, according to court records. No further details of the allegations were available from Ypsilanti police officials this week.
Morris' bond is set for 10 percent of $50,000.
Morris is also facing a charge of domestic violence for a Nov. 1 incident that resulted in injuries. A preliminary hearing in that case is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 19. His bond is set at 10 percent of $15,000.
According to court records, Morris is not married and has seven dependents.
Michigan Department of Corrections records show Morris has been convicted of second-offense domestic violence, felonious assault, and delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance.

I have been a friend to Darius for 2 years and he is a wonderful person. Sure, he has made some mistakes, but he is not capable to doing something like this. He loves children and would never do anything to harm them. This is all a misunderstanding and will be rectified. I am praying for you Darius and for your family.

Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. Or was he wrongfully convicted of all of the other crimes on his rap sheet? My sympathy is with the 11 year old girl who everyone apparently knows is being abused, but does nothing to help her, not with a convicted felon facing two more felony charges.

Wow. What an animal. Nice rap sheet: 1. convicted of second-offense domestic violence 2. felonious assault 3. delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance. I'm counting more than three strikes? What's wrong with our lawmakers?

I agree with Bonnie, if he were down south, he would never be seen again. Seven dependents and not married? I hope one of the dependents isn't the 11 year old girl. Who ever the 11 year old child is, I don't believe she would make up a story about being sexually assulted. I'm glad I don't know this guy, he has quite a history and it sucks!

I see Mr. Morris has a gallery of defenders. @MeMe: If he was arraigned, he had been charged. You're right that a district judge won't hear the felony charges, and that felony cases are bound over to circuit court for trial, but that does not mean the defendant has not been charged. AA.com's report is entirely appropriate.

Apparently the reporter wasn't paying attention to the fact that he has not yet been charged! He may have been arriainged, but since they are felony charges a district judge can't hear the case. So until he goes through the next step the cases can still be dismissed! There was no plea taken or any questions asked!

it's crazy that the news paper would even publish this at this point. you see the part in the report that says that "no further details of the allegations were available from Ypsilanti police"...that's because they haven't even investigated this case. i know the defendant & although he does has a past, he would NEVER do this to an 11-year-old girl. i could understand publishing this if he was found guilty...isn't he innocent until PROVEN guilty??

repete affenders should not have such a low bond, and if proven beyond a dought for child rape or other violent crimes should be put away forever. If he was down south he would never be seen again. Law of the land not the people this would not happen as much

That's not a very high bail for someone who's done so much damage. This guy should go to jail forever.
