Ypsilanti teenager assaulted and robbed in Peninsular Park
Editor's note: The Ypsilanti Police Department has reinterviewed the young woman in this case and determined she made up the story of being robbed, according to a news release.
An Ypsilanti teenager was assaulted and robbed this afternoon in Peninsular Park, Ypsilanti police said.
The 17-year-old victim was walking through the park on her way home about 2:05 p.m. when a man approached and hit her, a police news release said.
The man took cash from her wallet before getting into a white Saturn that was waiting on LeForge Road, police said.
The victim suffered some swelling to her face, the release said.
The man was described as black, with a dark complexion, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and in his late teens to early 20s, with a thin build. He had a chipped tooth, messy cornrows and a goatee and was wearing a red hat, gray hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, black pants and black and white gym shoes, the release said.

Do not walk alone in areas that are unpopulated. Have a friend with you. Might make a difference to cowards who prey on teenage women.

That's quite a detailed description. The victim must have a fine ability to recall such things even after being assaulted. The alleged perpetrator shold be quickly apprehended.

crime like rape doesn't happen in our great city. They must have realized it was a typo and deleted it. They would not want smah or hopes and dream of a euphoric city would they?

Thats a bad park anyway. It's really not even a park it's the old paper mill. I wouldnt walk through there alone in daylight. I used to live over that way and there was always something going on there. We even heard the gunshots where a man was killed there. Bad place!

If a teenager can't walk through the park at 2:05 p.m. , when can they safely? I wish she would have had some (Pepper Spray) to shoot at the coward. I hope he is caught soon.
