Deputies search for men in hard hats, SUV following Lodi Township break-in
Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies are searching for two men in hard hats believed to be tied to a burglary in Lodi Township Tuesday afternoon.
The break-in occurred in the 4300 block of Ellsworth Road at about 2:40 p.m.
Entry was gained by kicking in the back door, the sheriff's summary said. One TV, one computer and a video camera were taken.
Police are searching for an older model burgundy Ford Excursion with a 3-inch body lift and large tires. Two white males with hard hats were seen inside the vehicle, police said.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff's tip line at 734-973-7711.

@scooterdog If YOU have to use deadly force I think you'll need a civil attorney as the dead dirt bags family will want to sue you

@scooter dog. That is a horrible horrible myth and "getting them back inside" would only get you in serious hot water. You don't need CSI or much training to see this kind of criminal activity. Anyone thinking about self defense please disregard that statement and look at the links that Edward has kindly provided. @Edward, so any chance of an article on hardening our homes????

As I understand it.Most thinking about using deadly force against someone was that if you shot someone breaking into your house you better make sure they bit the dust INSIDE your house and if they fell outside you better get them back inside. Well with this House bill #5143 you can use deadly force anywhere you have the right to be and it says nothing about them, the crooks having to be in your house. Thanks for the link to the info.

3" screws are good for the hinges, but do nothing for the strike plate or deadbolt.2 guys kicking at a door, unless its a hollow metal entry door you see on the back alley doors of most business its not going to hold up.Most doors sold at the big box stores are residential low price very little security units.I would love to be sitting in my house when someone came kicking down my back door.My ole 10 ga mossburg would be just a barking. Michigan house bill #5143 would apply here. Look it up on google,it call the (self defense act) Amazing that they passed such a law

@Ricebrnr good advice. However some people may have no idea what longer screws will do so maybe I can help.Regular screws only go into the door jamb which is about 1/2 in thick.Longer screws will go into the door frame which is about 2 in thick giving more strength.( please people don't correct me on actual thicknes I'm just trying to keep it simple)Longer screws may or may not help on the door itself depending on its construction.

Again with the kicking in doors. Really people, got ot Home Depot or Lowes and buy enough 3" screws to replace all the ones holding your doors and lockplates in. That'll cost you less than $10 at most and will prevent or at least take more effort/time for these types of break ins. AnnArbor.com, how about getting that message out to the community? Mr. Kinsey? Locking doors hasn't helped in these cases, how about a follow up article on hardening your home? I mean we're seeing this type of crime about daily, right?
