Dexter Crossing and the Industrial Park hydrant flushing this week

By Lisa Allmendinger

Residents and businesses in the Dexter Crossing area and the Industrial Park are advised this week that Dexter's Utility Department will be flushing fire hydrants.

As crews flush hydrants in the neighborhoods, there may be some discoloration of the water, according to information from the village.

Residents who experience “rust colored” water should simply run the cold water tap for a few minutes to clear the household pipes, village officials said in an informational release.

The rust coloring is caused by a natural buildup of minerals in the water system, and some natural mineral deposits are stirred up in the water pipes when fire hydrants are first turned on.

If possible, village officials said, try to avoid washing white clothes during this time.

Questions can be directed to the utility department at 426-4572 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
