New sidewalk planned along Dexter-Pinckney Road
Once Civil Wars Days are over this summer at Gordon Hall near the Village of Dexter, it’s expected that a new sidewalk will be installed on Dexter-Pinckney Road.
This year’s Dexter Area Historical Society fundraising event is planned for June 8-10, and once that event is over, work is expected to begin on a 5-foot wide sidewalk that will be located along Dexter-Pinckney Road and continue to Westridge Drive, near the intersection of Dexter-Pinckney Road and Island Lake Road.
Easements have been secured from Cedar’s of Dexter, a senior living community, and the historical society, according to a memo from Donna Dettling, village manager.
Although the village had hoped to get this project under way as quickly as possible, the Road Commission could not commit to having the project done before the large fundraiser that’s expected to bring hundreds of people to Gordon Hall.
Once completed, the village "shall own, operate, maintain and repair the sidewalk," in perpetuity, according to the contract. The Road Commission will design and prepare the bid documents for the project as well as project administration, engineering services, construction layout and inspection, according to the agreement that was approved this week by Road Commission officials.
The estimated cost for the project is $86,250 with construction costs estimated at $75,000 and construction engineering costs of about $11,250.
Once bids come in for the project, the Village Council and the Road Commission will approve another contract for construction costs.
