A 24-year-old Dexter resident killed in a crash outside the village Nov. 11 had moved to the area to find work and support his 22-month-old son and the boy's mother, the Dexter Leader reported.

Derek Paul Bratton died when his 2001 Chrysler Concord went off the road, rolled over and hit a tree on Island Lake Road west of Dexter Pinckney Road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had earlier said he was 26 years old.

Bratton, who had moved from Davison, where he grew up, enjoyed spending time with his son and Heather Thomason, the boy’s mother, his father Jim Bratton said. He also loved sports and the outdoors and would do anything for anyone, Bratton said.
