DTE Energy: We've got an app for your power outage

By Cindy Heflin

Power out? DTE Energy has an app for that.

With the number of power outages in the Ann Arbor area lately, it could be a handy tool.

No it won’t get your electricity back on any faster, but it will let you report an outage, check on the status of a reported outage and view the DTE power outage map.

The app is available for iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

DTE customers without an iPhone can still use their Web enabled mobile devices to report outages or get an estimate on when power will be restored at mobile.dteenergy.com.

More information is available on DTE's website.

This is one app I should *not* be so excited about.

There is something wrong here, I think it's called investing in the infrastructure. The wind blew hard last week and my power was up and down all day. I had to reset my clocks at least three times. This summer about the first hot day, we had a brownout that lasted about 12 hours. It used to be that only the worst storms would bring the power down, now it's just some 20mph fall winds. Is the stock price worth more than continuous service?

It is too bad that this App doesn't turn off your power so those who want to be "Green" and "Save the Planet" could have a power outage anytime they feel guilty. This way they can THINK THAT they are saving the planet and I do not have to hear about.

I have lived here in Ann Arbor for 4 months and the power has been out THREE TIMES so far. That is unbelievable. So now we bought a generator and stocked up on supplies looking forward to a winter of outages.

Great job linking to the app, or at least to the press release. Oh wait.

AH great power saving device DTE! So instead of wasting my battery life and minutes during an outage, I can consult this app instead. Why think of all the battery power I'll save instead of being on hold and getting bad information live!

I would rather you'd upgrade your power grid, DTE. There have been way too many outages and way too many excuses.

It will probably come to droid, but let's face it... everything mobile gets built to iPhone/iPod/iPad first.
