Ann Arbor Huron High School Top Scholars
Huron High School held its 2010 graduation ceremonies June 2 in the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center. The class had 504 graduates.

Parents’ name(s): Yuhui Ai and Jing Gao
Activities and awards: Lucy enjoys books and music from all over the world, plays tennis and shops for fun. She plays the flute and volunteers at local agencies. Two Huron Clubs that Lucy enjoys are the Business Professionals of American and Ocean Bowl at Huron. She was also a member of Flags (Marching Band).
Plans after graduation: Lucy plans on going to the University Of Michigan, possibly studying business.

Parents’ name(s): Howard and Maria Bromberg
Activities and awards: Nate has been part of the Chess Club for four years serving as president for the last two and as First Board of Huron’s Championship team for three years. Won the gold medal at the Michigan Team Championship in ’08 and ’10 and is currently the ’09 Michigan High School Club Champion. He was also a part of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams and National Honor Society at Huron.
Plans after graduation: Nate plans on attending the University of Michigan in the LSA Honors Program or Cornell University.

Parents’ name(s): Mei Yan and Weijian Chen
Activities and awards: Maria was a National Merit Finalist and a board member of the Web Design Club and Huron Archive; a board member of the Business Professionals of America with various awards at regional and state levels and will compete at the national level this year. She also plays piano and has won numerous awards including the Frances Danforth Award and was a finalist in the Rosalie Edwards Youth Music Competition.
Plans after graduation: Maria plans on attending Princeton University or University of Michigan College of Engineering on the Engineering Scholarship of Honor.

Parents’ name(s): Brad Chick and Karen Kerry
Activities and awards: Jordan was part of the varsity soccer and volleyball teams for three years. She was named All-Conference in volleyball in her senior year and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Plans after graduation: Jordon plans to attend the University of Michigan

Parents’ name(s): Santiago and Emily Colas
Activities and awards: Adam has produced short films which have been shown at the Ann Arbor Film Festival. His film “Spaghetti Western on a Stick” won top prize at the Art Fair Film Festival. Adam will be directing a play for Huron Player’s finale this summer and made a PSA for Huron’s Tolerance week. He volunteers time at 826 Michigan.
Plans after graduation: Adam will be attending The School of Visual
Arts.

Parents’ name(s):Rich and Joanna Friedman
Activities and awards: Rebecca was part of the Varsity Tennis Team, and Varsity Softball and Field Hockey teams. She was a member of the choir, the National Honor Society, the 2010’s class Executive Board, the Jewish Student Union, and the of the JCC Board of Directors. Rebecca teaches at her synagogue’s religious school and tutors elementary students.
Plans after graduation: Rebecca is interested in pursuing a career either in Journalism or something in the medical field. She is still undecided as to which university

Parents’ name(s): Jay Guo
Activities and awards: Albert has been a member of the UM Go Club for six years, reaching 2 dan AGA as of 2009. He was also a member of the Huron High School Chess Club. He has played the violin, and was Concert Master of the Huron High School Philharmonic Orchestra freshman year. Albert volunteer hours are spent primarily at homeless shelters.
Plans after graduation: Albert plans on attending Michigan State University to become a teacher.

Parents’ name(s): Junping He and Wen Huang
Activities and awards: Robin has done well in math and qualified for the USA Math Olympiad the past four years and winning second place in the statewide math competition. He enjoys learning chemistry and physics and has made both the US Chemistry Olympiad national exam and US Physics Olympiad Semifinals. Robin plays the saxophone in Huron’s Symphony Band. He plays piano, tennis, and follows professional basketball and tennis.
Plans after graduation: Robin will be attending MIT and will study a field in either math or science.

Parents’ name(s): Judy and Ian Hiskens
Activities and awards: David was a National Merit Semi-finalist. He spent his afternoons at Uof M campus study Honors Calculus Theory I and II. He was a three year runner on the cross country team and two-time varsity letter winner. David had the honor of competing at both State and Nationals, and was named an Academic All-State athlete. He was also a three year Track and Field distance runner and varsity letter winner, played football in his freshman year, and was vice president for the Huron Cricket Club. David was a member of the A Cappella choir that performed in Salzburg, Austria this year. As a member of the Huron Players, he performed in the musical “Aida” and had a leading role “The Importance of Being Ernest.” With his church youth group, David has done volunteer work with Food Gatherers and the Chene Street Peacemakers, and leaves for his second mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico in June. He also plays bass and sings in the praise band.
Plans after graduation: David has been accepted into the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, but will most likely return to Australia to study engineering and mathematics at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

Parents’ name(s): Kunsoo Huh and Jungok Park
Activities and awards: Terry was a member of the Huron Symphony Orchestra and the National Honor Society. She has participated in National Student Leadership Conference, the Michigan Math and Science Scholars program, and the MUN conferences. Terry volunteers at Therapeutic Riding Inc., and the Human Society of Huron Valley.
Plans after graduation: Terry plans to study veterinary medicine and is considering the University of Michigan, Bryn Mawr College or Smith College.

Parents’ name(s): Richard and Rhoda Isenberg
Activities and awards: Robert was a National Merit Finalist and a member of the National Honor Society. He was a recipient of the University of Michigan Regents Merit Scholarship, and the Southeastern Conference All-Academic award. Robert has achieved the rank of Eagle Boy Scout Troup 4 and has earned four Eagle Palms. As a member of the FIRST Robotics Team, Robert was a leader of the design and manufacturing unit and primary robot driver. He was dual enrolled at Eastern Michigan University.
Plans after graduation: Robert plans to study engineering at the University of Michigan.

Parents’ name(s): Mark Kanzawa & Kim Kanzawa
Activities and awards: Mia was a member of the National Honor Society. She served as a captain of the women’s cross country team, and of the Color Guard in the marching band. Mia was also elected captain of the softball team for her third year on varsity. This year Mia enjoyed working with fellow members of the Asian Pacific Exchange Club to perform in the school’s Multicultural Show.
Plans after graduation: Mia plans to attend Johns Hopkins University to study medicine or engineering.

Parents’ name(s): Phyllis Greenley and Art Kuljian
Activities and awards: Anna was a member of the National Honor Society. A U.S. Figure Skating Gold Test medalist in freestyle and field moves, she competes and coaches for the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club. As a member of Huron’s Varsity Figure Skating team, she was a three-time high school state ice dance champion. Anna’s musical accomplishments include completing all ten levels at Michigan Student Achievement Testing Day in piano and playing violin in the Huron symphony Orchestra. In addition, Anna played travel soccer for the Ann Arbor United Nor’easters.
Plans after graduation: Anna plans to attend the Bowling Green State University Honors Program to study kinesiology.

Parents’ name(s): John Laird and Ann Alpern
Activities and awards: Valerie participated in the Women’s Lacrosse; was a member of the Young Women for Change and was co-captain her junior year. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the 2010 Huron Executive Board. Valerie was an AP Scholar and University of Michigan Regent Scholar.
Plans after graduation: Valerie plans on attending the University of Michigan honors program

Parents’ name(s): Tyra Lemmen and Craig Lemmen
Activities and awards: Kelsey was a member of the National Honor Society. She played on the soccer team for two years and played flute for the high school band. Kelsey was also part of the Huron Executive Board.
Plans after graduation: Kelsey plans to attend the University of Michigan studying pre-med.

Parents’ name(s): Kyle and Ruth Ann Logue
Activities and awards: Molly was a member of the National Honor Society and was involved in lacrosse. She has received the Regents Scholarship and Keeler Scholarship from the University of Michigan. Molly is a member of the Huron Hills Church Youth Group.
Plans after graduation: Molly will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall and plans on majoring in mathematics.

Parents’ name(s): Elizabeth and Lou Quillen
Activities and awards: Haley was a member of the 2010 Ann Arbor Youth Poetry Slam Team, the Teen Voice program at the Safehouse Center. She is co-editor-in-chief of “Full Circle” literary magazine and had her jewelry featured in “Potential!” art show at the Ann Arbor Center.
Plans after graduation: Haley has plans to attend the University of Michigan Residential College/School of Education.

Parents’ name(s): Yu Jo Philson
Activities and awards: Renee was a National Merit Finalist and also received the Outstanding Community Youth Volunteer award. Her activities include playing the piano, violin and guitar and is employed at the Kumon Learning Center.
Plans after graduation: Renee plans on majoring in biomedical engineering and hopes to attend medical school to become a pediatrician.

Parents’ name(s): Katie Rowan and Jim Rowan
Activities and awards: Christina was a National Merit Finalist and Huron High School Concerto competition. She participated in the Michigan All-State Orchestra and Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Orchestra. Christina has also spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
Plans after graduation: Christina plans to attend the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance studying violin performance.

Parents’ name(s): Jim and Pam Toner
Activities and awards: Michael was a straight A student and a National Merit Finalist. He was been involved in varsity swimming and qualified for the High School Swimming meet for four years. He took 3rd place in the 100 yard backstroke in 2009. Michael has participated in both state and national math and Latin competitions. He played tuba for the Symphony Band and Symphony Orchestra and in the Michigan Youth Ensembles receiving top ratings on solos and ensembles at district and state festivals. Michael has been president of the Huron Classics League; vice president of Amnesty International; a three-year Prose Editor of “Full Circle” literary magazine; an officer of Interact; a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts; and a two year member of the National Honor Society. Michael has volunteered for Huron’s Challenge Day and various fundraisers as well as other volunteer projects for charitable organizations.
Plans after graduation: Michael plans on attending the University of Michigan.

Activities and awards: Victoria was part of the High School Honors Science Program. She has been Key Club president for the past two years and was recipient of the Southeastern Conference All-Academic Award 2010.

Parents’ name(s): Father: Juhchin Yang, mother: Hsienyuan Chang
Activities and awards: Daniel was a four year varsity tennis starter winning three All State Awards and two State Titles. He was president of the Business Professionals of American and a National Winner on the software engineering team. Daniel volunteered overseas in Taiwan as an English teacher. He was secretary of the National Honor Society; DCEA Outstanding High School Student Scholarship winner and a National Merit Finalist.
Plans after graduation: Daniel plans to attend either Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science or University of Michigan’s College of Engineering.
