A two-vehicle crash on Whitmore Lake Road in Ann Arbor Township trapped a woman in the wreckage for about an hour and sent at least two people to the hospital.
The head-on crash occurred about 7:50 a.m. near Dhu Varren Road, a dispatch supervisor with Huron Valley Ambulance said. Whitmore Lake Road was still closed for the accident investigation at 10 a.m., a dispatcher with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department said.
Firefighters from Ann Arbor and Northfield Township assisted the Ann Arbor Township Fire Department in freeing the woman, who suffered serious injuries, from the wreckage, said Kristen Kasten, the Huron Valley Ambulance supervisor.
Rescuers tore the top off one of the vehicles, a Dodge Neon, to free the woman. The other vehicle was a Mazda 5. The driver of that vehicle was a man. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
No further information was immediately available.

No the weather had nothing to do with the crash. But i would like to THANK Lace for her staying with me. If it wasn't for her i would be dead. I have a long hall as i have been told that 3 to 6 mon before i can even think about walking if i ever do walk again.

I was driving in that area two hours before it happened, thinking it was a safer route to the gym, without steep hills where a vehicle could easily get out of control. I don't know if the different road surface material on Whitmore Lake Road north of Warren is a safer surface for winter driving, but this accident raises the question. Our vehicles drive more quietly on the road surface south of Warren Road. Even at 5:40 in the morning, motorists getting onto southbound Whitmore Lake Road in this area often have to yield the right of way to southbound motorists already on it.

The accident happened in front of me on Whitmore Lake Road. I stopped, called 911 and talked to the woman and tried to keep her calm until police and fire arrived. I only got her first name, but I really hope she is doing ok. That was one nasty accident.

Weather may have been a contributing factor, but wasn't "to blame." It's amazing how much passenger-compartment integrity has improved in vehicles over the past twenty years or so. That little Neon is heavily damaged (I realize that the top was cut off by using the Jaws of Life), but it sounds like the driver will be OK, thank goodness.
