Five arrested during Michigan football game against Ohio State

By Nathan Bomey

University of Michigan police arrested five people and issued tickets to another seven during the Michigan football team's win over Ohio State today.

Two minors were arrested for possessing alcohol, one person was arrested for disorderly conduct, one was arrested for resisting and obstructing an officer and one was arrested for a controlled substance violation, U-M Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Diane Brown said.

Of the seven people ticketed, five had alcohol in the stadium, one possessed someone else's identification and one urinated in public, Brown said.

In addition to those who were arrested and ticketed, another 38 people were ejected from the game, including 17 for possessing someone else's ID, 16 for having alcohol in the stadium, four for disorderly conduct and one for violation of stadium rules.

At least 87 people were treated by medical personnel, and at least 15 were transported to the hospital, Brown said.

Brown described the atmosphere as relatively normal for an Ohio State game and without any significant incidents.

I worked the game and saw 6 overly intoxicated UM students (or could've been college-aged fans) who could barely stand up and were taken out on stretchers.

At least 87 people were treated by medical personnel, and at least 15 transported to the hospital??? Couldn't stand the heat or what? Those that were arrested, ticketed, and ejected (so be it) if one can't follow the rules of the U-M department of safety, and Law enforcement this will happen. (and it is a good thing) Great Game Michigan!

Why was Homeland Security out in force for the game? I heard there were individuals with automatic assault weapons visible at the game. Beginning to feel like more of a police state.

With that many people gathered in one place, all it takes is one terrorist. You can't yell "where were the security people" in some cases and whine about their presence in others. Think of it as looking after your welfare.

"Brown described the atmosphere as relatively normal for an Ohio State game" ...it's been 2926 days since things were "normal".

It's too bad they don't list how many were Michigan fans and how many were Ohio fans...although I may not want to know.
