Grass Lake mourns 2 people killed in crash

By Paula Gardner

Two teens were killed while a third was critically injured Sunday night in a collision involving one car trying to pass another on a Grass Lake-area road, MLive.com is reporting.

The crash happened on Mt. Hope Road near Andry's Road in Jackson County's Waterloo Township. The location is north of the Waterloo Recreation Area, near Chelsea.

According to the MLive.com report, Dylan Briningstool, 20, and Icy James, 18, died when their Chevrolet Aveo went off the road and struck a tree. The pair are from the Grass Lake area, which is located west of Chelsea and south of I-94.

Briningstool's younger brother, 18-year-old Aaron, was thrown from the car. He's being treated at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. His condition is stable, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Their car collided with a second car as one of them was trying to pass. Police aren't saying so far which vehicle was passing or releasing details on the circumstances just before the crash, according to MLive.com.

My thoughts are with the families of these three young people. I wish them peace in the coming days. This would have happened just north of Reithmiller Rd. on Mt. Hope. The victims were not both teens however, one was 20 years old according to the article.

"one car trying to pass another on a Grass Lake road..." "The crash happened on Mt. Hope Road..." This is confusing because there is a Grass Lake Road. The article says the Accident was on a Waterloo Twp. road.
