Man robs Key Bank branch in Ypsilanti Township, police say

By Amalie Nash

A man who claimed he had a gun robbed a Key Bank branch in Ypsilanti Township late this afternoon, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

Police released images of the suspect this evening in the hopes that someone will recognize him.

At about 4:15 p.m., the man entered the Key Bank on Washtenaw Ave near Hewitt Road, told the teller he had a gun, and demanded money, a sheriff's news release said. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the man ran to a car parked nearby on Fairfield Street.

Police said the vehicle was described as a 2000 or later Pontiac G6 two-door with silver or gold metallic paint.

The robber was described as black, 28 to 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a mustache, deep voice and thin to medium build. He was wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, dark jeans, white shoes and a white brimmed hat (not a baseball hat).

Anyone with information is asked to call (734) 973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

If the robber is actually on his/a cell phone, as it appears in the photo... Couldn't the cell tower records in the area be searched for the exact time of the robbery? P.S. Let me know where I can pick up my check... :)

Sounds like the TCF bank was also robbed today by the same individual.

It would be nice to get a better photo, but I will be looking for him. If I see him, I'll give the Police a call. I hope he doesn't find himself at St. Andrews of the Shelter. He's certainly not welcome there. When I start to give a crap about him, I'll let you know.
