Man shot during dispute in parking lot of Pittsfield Township apartment complex; shooter still at large

By Amalie Nash

A 20-year-old Pittsfield Township man was shot in the leg Tuesday night during a dispute in the parking lot of the Glencoe Hills apartment complex, police said.

The shooter remains at large.

Pittsfield Township police said the victim and a friend were walking through the apartment complex parking lot, in the area of 2128 Glencoe Hills Drive, when they were approached by a man at about 8:47 p.m.

An argument ensued, and as the victim was walking away, the other man fired a gun three times, striking the victim once in the leg, police said in a press release. Pittsfield Public Safety Director Matt Harshberger said today that police are still investigating what led to the shooting.

The victim's friend carried him to an apartment building, police said. He was then transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was treated and released for his injury, the release said.

A police tracking dog was called in, but was unable to locate the shooter, the release said. The shooter was described as black, 25-30 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 180 pounds, with a goatee and mustache. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue or black coat.

Harshberger said late Tuesday that officers were interviewing a number of witnesses who were in the area when the shooting occurred.

Anyone who has information on the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to call Pittsfield Township police at 734-822-4911.
