The University of Michigan Health System will begin to share electronic records with northern Ohio doctors under an agreement approved last week.

In a move expected to limit medical errors and redundant tests, doctors at practices across Michigan and northern Ohio will begin to share electronic records.

The agreement was approved last week between the University of Michigan Health System and Great Lakes Health Information Exchange, CBS Detroit reported.

That means physicians at UMHS-affiliated practices will have access to background in an GLHIE network, whose partners include Sparrow Health System, Hayes Green Beach Hospital, the Ingham County Health Department, and others, according to a UMHS news story.

It could be especially helpful in scenarios when patients can’t communicate their medical history. Doctors treating a non-UMHS, unconscious victim of a car crash in the emergency department may be able to access the patient’s entire medical record, for example.

Sure! Governor Snyder has introduced and I'm told passed legislation in Michigan that would allow most anyone to access our personal, medical records. This is wrong but nary a protest was heard as it was slipped in with other legislation. That's our governor Slick Snyder.

For about 10 years, all of of the Medical Records for the Univesity of Michigan Medical Center are at a Location on Huron Parkway and Hubbard and each and every Medical record that is needed is drove to the Medical Center and alot of gas is used and so much waste of money. It was the wonderful idea of Rosie Whitehouse and the University said it was a wonderful idea and alot of gas for driving the Medical records all over town. Oh and some of the records are near the airport at another storage unit.
