Publisher announces formation of new MLive Media Group for Michigan

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Dan Gaydou, president of the newly formed MLive Media Group, announced the formation of the company this morning to employees of seven newspapers and Mlive.com.

In his video address to employees, Gaydou said: "We are announcing today that we are launching a new company, the MLive Media Group, which will provide all content and sales operations for MLive.com and all our local newspapers in Michigan. This new company will be driven by innovation and community engagement, and dedicated to providing high-quality content in whatever form may be desired - in print, online, or on tablets or mobile devices."

The move affects The Grand Rapids Press, Muskegon Chronicle, Jackson Citizen-Patriot, Kalamazoo Gazette, Flint Journal, Saginaw News, Bay City Times and MLive.com, based in Ann Arbor.

AnnArbor.com also will be included in the new group. Its publication dates and its current operations will not change, and it will retain its current URL and web site.

Heh! It all makes sense now. I've been noticing that annarbor.com has been a mini-Mlive in tenor and comments for months now - no wonder this site never deletes comments from the most egregious right-wing trolls.

For what it's worth, there haven't been any changes in our moderation policies recently, and we aren't planning any changes as a result of this. We do not moderate based on the political leanings of our commenters, conservative or liberal. Everyone has a right to his or her point of view, and strong opinion is welcome. All we ask is that commenters stay within our conversation guidelines.

Seriously: it's amazing how different the individual viewpoints are on topics like this. I switched away from MLive to aa.com because MLive forum moderation was a mess. I still haven't seen much improvement @ Mlive so I have mixed feelings about their expansion (and AnnArbor.com's inclusion). Supposedly, there's an upside - maybe AnnArbor.com will become less of a "podcast from someone's living room" than it is now. LOL!
