Winter sports enthusiasts beware: Rain could return Monday

By Lisa Carolin

Washtenaw County got about one inch of accumulated snow on Friday, although parts got more, including two inches in Chelsea.

But winter sports enthusiasts shouldn't start celebrating quite yet.

Sunday's forecast is for partly sunny skies and a high near 25, and then beginning on Monday, temperatures will rise to the upper 30s. There will be a 50 percent chance of rain after 1 p.m. Monday.

That means the snow could get washed away, so skiing enthusiasts may want to make the most of current conditions.

Temperatures will stay in the upper 30s through Tuesday when snow is likely, possibly mixed with rain.

By Wednesday, temperatures will dip back down into the mid 20s, stay there on Thursday and rise to near 30 degrees on Friday. Wednesday is forecast to be partly sunny with a chance of snow showers overnight. There is also a chance of snow showers Thursday, Thursday night and Friday.

The normal high for this date is 31 degrees and the normal low is 18 degrees. Sunset will be at 5:25 p.m. and sunrise Sunday will be just after 8 a.m.

"Temperatures will stay in the upper 30s through Tuesday when snow is likely, possibly mixed with rain." If it's in the upper 30's, it will rain, not snow.

It can still snow at that temperature. It's colder in the upper atmosphere.
