Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor offers free clothing, household items through voucher program
A letter in the July 11 print edition described House by the Side of the Road as “the only organization in Washtenaw County that provides free clothing and household items to the needy in the area ... ”
I’m pleased to remind your readers that the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor has a voucher program through which we provide more than $25,000 worth of clothing and household merchandise annually to individuals and families referred to us by social workers from many local social service agencies. Our ability to donate so much is possible because the community strongly supports the Kiwanis Thrift Sale each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kiwanis Activities Center, corner of South First and West Washington streets.
Our shoppers, the generous donors of new and gently used goods, our volunteers, and our members also made it possible for our club to grant approximately $245,000 to area nonprofits this year and to award 29 college scholarships of $1,000 each to Ann Arbor high school seniors recommended by their counselors.
