Power out for about 3,000 DTE Energy customers in Ann Arbor area

By Cindy Heflin

4 p.m. update: Power has been restored to the affected area.

A power outage is affecting about 3,000 DTE Energy customers on the north side of Ann Arbor.

DTE spokesman John Austerberry said an equipment problem at the utility’s Phoenix substation on Dhu Varren Road originally knocked out power to about 6,000 customers.

About half have had power restored. The rest should have electricity back by about 2:45 p.m., Austerberry said. Power has been off since about 10:15 this morning.

The outage area stretches from slightly north of Plymouth Road to East North Territorial Road.

Can I get an additional rebate for the electricity I was going to use?

Power went out near Domino's Farms around 10:15-20AM. Glad I don't live in NE Ann Arbor, as that section has been notorious for losing power for several years now.

The outage map is inaccurate. We are on the south side of Broadway. Our power went out at 10:18 a.m. and came back on shortly before noon.

This is the third time in 3 months that my area, northside has lost power. Something must be able to be done so this doesn't happen all the time.

I live in NE Ann Arbor, and since this Spring or so, we've had a record number of outages that last maybe 1-10 seconds (sometimes maybe 1-2 a week). My neighbor called DTE and DTE said to call them in when they happen (but there's no way to report them online), as they may not be able to "see" the little ones (thanks, DTE, for your great monitoring!), but they did open an investigation when he called. One of those things where everyone assumes DTE knows so no one calls, at least so says DTE. I don't know why they have no way of telling this though.

Did the app confirm this alleged event? How about a follow up with the app as to when power may come back on?...

Wondering why? Look to years of lack of investment in infrastructure. And to make it even better? DTE got a rubber stamp from the State for a rate increase beginning this month. So..... shoddy service, and pay more for it.

Sounds like the Ninja Squirrels are at it again. Or that high wind today. Or that sudden ice storm. Or something....

Is there a reason why there are so many power outages this year? I have only lived in AA since 2007 and this is the only year our power has gone out with such frequency, at least as far as I can remember. I know it's probably not as often as I think, but it feels like it happens once a month! It just seems odd....
