Vive la France.

Brendan Owens, a sixth-grade student at Saline Middle School, appealed to the Saline City Council Monday night to allow the French flag to fly in downtown Saline Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street for 20 days, beginning Feb. 16.

His efforts were rewarded by unanimous approval from the City Council.

Brendan, 12, is participating in the French exchange program at his school and said the welcoming gesture would honor the eight French students and two teachers who are expected to visit the city from Feb. 16-March 7.

Nice gesture: I'm glad this young man had that much sense and determination. I do understand the need for official approval and I'm glad Saline's city council saw this as legitimate and beneficial. Good show all around. Bienvenue, visiteurs français !
