Saline to celebrate Michigan Main Street designation on Tuesday

By Lisa Allmendinger

Saline officials are inviting the community to learn more about its designation as a participant in the Michigan Main Street program.

Officials from the Michigan Main Street Center will speak at 7 p.m. at Mac’s Acadian Seafood Shack, 104 E. Michigan Ave.

“Programs like Michigan Main Street provide downtown communities with the tools needed to develop thriving downtowns,” MSHDA’s Executive Director Gary Heidel said previously. “In turn, these tools can be used to create jobs, provide desirable places to live and build a sense of place for Michigan residents.”

The Michigan Main Street Program focuses on four points of enhancement: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring, according to a news release.

With the designation, the city will receive five years of intensive technical assistance through the Michigan Main Street program, with a focus on revitalization strategies designed to attract new residents, business investment, economic growth and job creation to the central business district, according to information about the program.

“The Michigan Main Street program is part of Governor Snyder’s placemaking efforts to create vibrant communities across Michigan,” according to information from Cynthia Czubko.

Dessert will be provided by the Saline Main Street program.
