Residents can learn about duties of Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department at Citizens Academy

By Lisa Allmendinger

If you’ve ever wondered about police work, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department has scheduled a Citizens Police Academy beginning next month.

Residents will learn about police work from criminal justice instructors, covering topics such as the investigation of serious and fatal crashes, traffic stop protocol, K-9 abilities and uses, special weapons and tactics, criminal investigations and advanced investigations, evidence collection, computer forensics and metro dispatch.

The third annual academy takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday nights from March 23 to May 25 at the main sheriff's department station on Hogback Road in Ann Arbor.

Anyone who's interested should contact Deputy Ray Yee at yeer@ewashtenaw.org or Sgt. David Archer at archerd@ewashtenaw.org.

There is a short, but required, application process.
