Short in electrical wire, possibly due to rain, causes power outage for 1,000 homes south of Ypsilanti

By AnnArbor.com Staff

About 1,000 homes south of Ypsilanti lost power today, according to DTE.

The cause of the power outage appears to be a short somewhere in the system that caused a circuit breaker to pop, said DTE spokesman John Austerberry.

Crews are out in the area trying to determine where the short happened so it can be repaired.

It's possible today's persistent rain caused a tree limb to sag onto an electrical wire, causing the short, Austerberry said. However, an exact cause won't be determined until crews locate the source of the short.

Why no mention of the widespread power outage in NE A2 near the VA hospital? I missed the Notre Dame game due to a power outage that started at 3:15 pm and was not restored until late evening. What caused it?
