South Quad restaurant Ciao Down reopens after cockroach infestation
By Cindy Heflin
A pizzeria in the University of Michigan’s South Quadrangle residence hall has reopened following treatments to rid it of cockroaches, The Michigan Daily reported.
Ciao Down Pizzeria was closed Dec. 15 for treatment while students were on vacation.
Exterminators used food-safe treatments to get rid of the roaches in food areas, University Housing spokesman Peter Logan told the newspaper.

Cockroaches are greasy sweet and crunchy but they make your breath stink something fierce. Cockroach pizza would require mouthwash . . . and floss.

It is probably the rare restaurant in Ann Arbor that doesn't harbor some roach activity. Remember the photos of rats running amuck in New York restaurants after hours? One of the reasons that I am happy to eat at home.

for everyone out there, the entire campus is riddled with cockroaches. It's a campus of old buildings, there's nothing that can be done about it. I used to be a 2nd shift custodian on campus and can tell you that there is no such thing as a roach-free building. Especially at night, after just about everyone has gone home at 5pm.

Agreed. One of the big problems is people who eat at their desks, dropping food all over. Many also store food in the desks. It's a variable feast!!

It may help if patrons were staying away because of the cockroaches. It may not help if customers were not already aware of the problem.

Insects are an accepted food staple for millions of persons in cultures throughout the world. Local insectivores could have their own menu with insect toppings; high in protein, low in saturated fats. Knowing the diversity of Ann Arbor, there are likely enough insectivorous individuals to warrant such an alternative menu.

On the reverse psych marketing theory that you at least remember negative names ( "flim flam", "wurst bar" etc) this place could rename as "ciao down/ throw up"
