Two arrested in prostitution sting in Ypsilanti Township

By Lee Higgins

Two women were arrested Tuesday night after they propositioned an undercover detective during a prostitution sting on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

The women, ages 25 and 26, were taken to Washtenaw County jail. Both live in Ypsilanti Township.

They were arrested between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., and one had outstanding warrants for never acquiring an operator's license and possession of drug paraphernalia, a sheriff's department incident summary said.

We moved on Miles in the summer and it is pretty sad that my children have to see this going on everyday.. It is pretty upsetting for us as family to have to watch this and nothing get done.

Wow I thought no one noticed.. I work mid-nights and I always see them in front of the citco gas station on the corner of Michigan Ave and Prospect Rd. They even try to flag down those big green trucks that are on the way to the yard off Ecorse rd.

There have been communities who took pictures of these people and their clients and published them on the internet. It reallly curbbed the traffic. Believe me, you would be shocked who the people are who frequent these women. I personally know a minister who was caught several years ago in a van on Pearl Street with one. Everyday you see them out from Marsh Plating to Gabriels Hoagies on Michigan Ave. They are not hiding, they are out in plain sight and NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. Now the millage failed and there will be less deputies on patrol to attempt to take care of the problem. What are the priorities of the WCSD if not keeping our streets safe? This problem needs adressing and NOW. Publish their pictures, impound their vehicles.

I got a chuckle out of this one myself. The idea that this problem is being taken seriously by either the Ypsilanti PD or Washtenaw Sherriff's Dept is a complete farce. I am a Miles St resident and watch these women (and their pimps) operate with impunity on Michigan Avenue on a daily basis. While I understand that there are more pressing concerns for our understaffed public safety departments this is a serious quality of life issue. On several occasions my neighbors and I have witnessed fights between prostitutes and pimps, other prostitutes, and customers take place on the street in front of our homes. Also don't think for one second that the drug dealers who make it possible (and necessary) for these women to ply their disgusting trade aren't operating in our midst as well. They are. I see it every single day. I actually had one of these filthy degenerates knock on my door on Halloween looking for candy! And to think I wondered why only one kid showed up the first Halloween I lived here. Is this really the kind of neighborhood we want to live in? We as a community need to stand up to this human detritus and make it extremely clear that we (taxpayers by the way unlike these vermin) will no longer tolerate this kind of criminal behavior in our backyards and will accept nothing less than full cooperation in this endeavor from our law enforcement agencies.

What about the older blonde woman who walks out by EBY Brown on Michiagn Ave? She lives in my neighborhood. We call 911, as we are told to do, and NOTHING happens. She is out there everyday and the traffic in and out of her house is unbelieveable. The same cars and men in and out everyday, seven days a week. I think we should start taking pictures of the car license plates and the men and posting them on the internet for all to see. Obviously the police are not concerned that this is taking place in a residential neighborhood with many children on the same block. We have a Neighborhood Watch and we are getting nothing but empty promises that something will be done. It has been MONTHS and nothing has been done. WCSD needs to concentrate on the areas where these women live also and LISTEN to the people who have to live around them. Where there is prostitution, there are drugs usually. You can take care of two problems at once.

This activity goes on both day and night. These women and transvestites have about a mile strip from the bottom of the hill on Michigan Ave., down by Park St., and going out past Discount Tire.

LOL!!!!! The police could only arrest two girls!?! Drive down Michigan Ave past downtown Ypsilanti near the Burger King and McDonalds on any given night and you will see the prostitutes walking back and fourth. And please don't say it was a "sting" when you only got to women who are only 25 and 26 years old. I know there are very good police officers in our community and they have my full support when they are doing their jobs but only arresting these two girls and thinking they are helping with a prostitution problem in Ypsilanti is a joke.

When you say, "one had outstanding warrants for never acquiring an operator's license" are you talking about a driver's license because the story does not mention a vehicle? I can't imagine it means you need a license to operate a prostitution ring. Please clarify.
