Washtenaw Technical Middle College Top Scholars

Washtenaw Technical Middle College held its 2012 graduation ceremonies May 20, 4 p.m. on the campus of Washtenaw Community College Morris Lawrence Building. The class included 134 graduates.
Josh Chamberlain

Activities and Awards: Josh graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) and completed 89 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC). Josh was a photographer, writer and Managing Design Editor for The Washtenaw Voice, student newspaper of WCC. He received state and national awards from MCCPA, MPA, and ACP for graphic design, writing, and photography in The Voice. He also achieved the Dean's High Honor Roll at WCC for each year of his attendance at WTMC. He volunteered time for FLY children's art center and did freelance design and photography for local businesses.
Plans After Graduation: Josh plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to study Graphic Design.

Noah Glatz Parents: Ron and Beth Glatz
Activities and Awards: Noah graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with an Associate of Science Degree in General Studies in Math and Natural Sciences. He completed 83 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC). He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and plans to spend his summer working as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Plans After Graduation: Noah plans to attend the University of Michigan College of Engineering.
Adam Hagopian-Zirkel

Activities and Awards: Adam graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with an Associate of Arts Degree in Digital Video Production and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Occupational Studies. He completed 92 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC) and crafted several life changing friendships during his time there. Adam is heavily involved in Ann Arbor's teen center, The Neutral Zone, and is an active member of the Short Story Workshop, Red Beard Press, and the Volume Youth Poetry Project. He is currently a member of the Ann Arbor Poetry Slam team, and will be representing Ann Arbor at Brave New Voices in San Fransisco this July. In addition, a video project he and a team of fellow WCC video students made was shown during the Student Showcase at the 50th Ann Arbor Film Festival.
Plans After Graduation: Adam will be attending New York University's Tisch as a film student.
Leah Kaisler

Activities and Awards: Leah graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with a General Studies in Math and Natural Sciences Associate in Science Degree and a Liberal Arts Transfer Associate in Arts Degree. She completed 91 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC). She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and has made the Academic Dean's List of WCC from Fall 2009 through Winter 2012. She was a member of the WTMC Ultimate Frisbee team, serving as co-captain her senior year. She was part of two 4-H groups, serving as treasurer, secretary and president. Through 4-H, she exhibited dogs, horses, cows, and several static projects including creative writing, artwork and plants at the Lenawee County Fair. In addition, Leah is an English tutor at WCC's Writing Center.
Plans After Graduation: Leah will be attending either the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor or Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, majoring in either Mathematical Science or Math Education.
James Lamine

Activities and Awards: James graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with an Associate of Science Degree in General Studies in Math and Natural Science. He completed 84 credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC) and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. James played for Air Raid, the school's Ultimate Frisbee team, for three years. He was also involved in a number of volunteer activities, including tutoring in Detroit once a week. James is the recipient of the Calvin Presidential Scholarship, Calvin Honors Fellows Scholarship, and the Michigan Competitive Scholarship.
Plans After Graduation: James will attend Calvin College and study Computer Science.
Jennifer Lindner

Activities and Awards: Jennifer graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts Transfer. She completed 77 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC). She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, has been a member of Student Council, and is on WTMC's Prom Committee. She also spent her sophomore year as a part of WTMC's Ultimate Frisbee team. She spends every Monday volunteering in Detroit tutoring children.
Plans After Graduation: Jennifer will be attending Western Michigan University's honors program, majoring in Elementary Education.
Joseph Martinez

Activities and Awards: Joseph graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with 3 Associate Degrees: his major, Criminal Justice, as well as a Liberal Arts Transfer and an Occupational Studies Degree. Joseph is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and also is on the WCC Dean's High Honor Roll. He spends much of his time devoted to his studies pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. He also owns a local landscaping company with a number of loyal clients. Joseph dedicates a large amount of time volunteering at the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department as a Sergeant Deputy Explorer, allowing him opportunities to serve the community with Sheriff Deputies. Joseph has a passion for music and currently is a member of the Praise Team at Solid Rock Church of Ann Arbor as well as serving as the Worship Leader at Solid Rock Church of Novi. In his spare time, Joseph can be found recording songs that he has written and continues to write.
Plans After Graduation: Joseph will attend Eastern Michigan University beginning in fall of 2012, to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Martin Raymond

Activities and Awards: Martin graduated summa cum laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with two Associate of Art Degrees; Human Services and Liberal Arts Transfer. He completed 79 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC). He earned membership in Phi Theta Kappa during his year at WTMC, as well as several Dean's List accreditations. Tangentially, Martin has achieved the rank of Expert Archer in the Junior Olympic Archery program, which doesn't have so much to do with academic accomplishment, but was really hard and is something he liked to share. He once read Moby Dick, and figures that should be worth an award.
Plans After Graduation: Martin intends to study Psychology at Eastern Michigan University under an Emerald Scholarship. His dream is to help people improve themselves by talking to them, so he plans to practice Clinical Psychology, or become a teacher.

WTMC was a wonderful fit for our son. It was challenging yet very supportive. The teachers were great, the resources and classes were excellent, and the friendships were such a bonus. Thanks WCC and WTMC for providing such an excellent education.
