Donald R. Oates was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury.

Oates is accused of hitting a 31-year-old Belleville resident who was attempting to cross East Michigan Avenue west of Wiard Road at about 3:15 a.m., the summary said.

The victim remains in critical condition, the summary said. Oates was being held this morning at the Washtenaw County Jail on $7,500 bond.

He is scheduled to return to court May 26.

I'm sure that will be a comfort to the victim during the weeks and months of rehabilitation ahead. Not to mention the medical bills, loss of wages and other hardships they'll have to endure. Sure hope this nice guy had auto insurance and if so with very nice coverage. What are the chances of that?

Yes Edward the first photo at the Kid Rock event is Don, he is a fan of Kid Rock and Detroit. I don't think the photo about the fire would be him. His friends and I have seen the article and really can't believe it happened. Don is such a nice guy. I am sure he understands the serious nature of the crime he has commited and I am sure he is terribly upset about injuring the victim.

My heart and prayers go out to the victim and his family. However I cannot believe that his bond is so low for such a serious crime. He clearly needs to be prosecuted to the fullest exstinct of the law because this could have been a lot worse for the victim and his family and nothing is acceptable about this. I only hope that when he closes his eyes the only thing he see's is the victim. I will continue to pray for the victim and his family as well as this man because he clearly needs it.

Yes, that is "Crazy Pants" the colorful charecter from around Ypsi and Detroit. I know him personally and can't believe that this has happened. He is always so happy and laid back. I never thought he drank that much either. I hope the person he injured recovers.

Yes, I was wondering if the picture was the driver as well. He looks a lot like a popular local around town- the guy that wears all of the buttons and patches on his clothes. I wonder if this is him- the picture is a little too distorted to tell.

Hope the vic heals up without any serious after effects. But, is the picture of the driver? And why is it so distorted?
