Disabled veteran from Ypsilanti battles to save home from foreclosure
A disabled veteran from Ypsilanti who was injured in Iraq came home to a different kind of battle, one that almost resulted in the loss of his home, the Detroit Free Press reported as part of a series on foreclosures in Metro Detroit.
Sgt. Eric Spalding, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq, managed to keep his house, but not before his lender, GMAC, made plans to sell the home at auction.
Spalding managed to get a permanent loan modification with the help of a foreclosure prevention counselor at the Washtenaw County Treasurer's Office, the Free Press reported.

God bless you Mr. Spaulding, and may the future become a little brighter for you. To GMAC, shame on you-- if it was not for men and women like Mr. Spaulding, you would not be in business very long.

A heartfelt thank you to the foreclosure prevention counselor at the Washtenaw County Treasurer's Office who helped him secure the modification of his loan. I'm glad someone was on his side.

First, thank you Mr. Spalding for your service and protecting myself and America. Secondly, what is wrong with this picture; our government continues to send over 2 billion aid a year to Pakistan, a government whom hates us and protects terrorists (Bin Laden notably) and recently shared our top secret (stealth copter) with China. We rush to aid every country in the world at time of disaster and constantly send aid to other countries. Yet heros and role models like Mr. Spalding risks his life to serve our country, dreaming everyday that if he can just make it back to America - things will be all right. American has it's priorities distorted, we can't even take care of our own people - and of course our hero's like Mr. Spalding.

I am disappointed and repulsed by the heartless actions of GMAC. Mr Spalding has risked his life numerous times in Iraq, regardless of one's political views. He deserves his home and so much more. Thank you Mr. Spalding for your service!
